Hero Fund Commission member Nancy Rackoff presented Carnegie Hero Kendall Reyes with the Carnegie Medal during a Palm Beach, Florida, Police Department award ceremony held Dec. 1, 2023.

In June, Reyes was called to a scene where a 67-year-old woman who was perched on the ledge of the roof of a six-story building and threatening to jump. Officer Reyes, 38, arrived and attempted to establish a rapport with the woman, but could not lure here away from the edge. Concluding that she was about to jump, Reyes sprinted 15 feet to the woman and pulled her backward to the deck of the roof.

When the Hero Fund announced the awards in September, Reyes told reporters she was thrilled.

“Being recognized by such an organization is incredible in itself,” Reyes told the Daily News.
