Carnegie Hero Heather Zabrowski, right, is shown with Hero Fund President Eric Zahren after a Dec. 14, 2019, ceremony honoring her at the McLane Black Lake Fire Department in Olympia, Wash.
Zabrowski, of Olympia, was awarded the Carnegie Medal after responding to the scene of a burning sport utility vehicle July 30, 2018, in Olympia. Zabrowski extended her upper body inside the vehicle to unlatch the driver’s seat belt. She then pulled him from the vehicle to the ground, where she called for others nearby to help her move him to safety.
