Ronald W. Miracle, 68, of St. Charles, Mo., died May 20, 2017. Miracle was awarded the Carnegie Medal in 1991 after he saved a woman from a burning car on September 29, 1989 in Mesa, Ariz. Despite growing flames and heavy smoke, Miracle entered the vehicle and seized the semi-conscious woman, pulling her to safety, as flames engulfed the interior of the car. Miracle sustained smoke inhalation, but he recovered. Miracle was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam War and continuing on as a staff sergeant in the army for the 20 years that followed.
