Abner Sullivan saved James Jones from suffocation, Culloden, Georgia, October 20, 1914. Sullivan, 37, laborer, was lowered into the well after Brice came up and others had refused to enter it. He tied a short rope around Jones and to the well rope. He was hoisted part of the way to the top with Jones, then he stood on top of casing in the well until Jones was drawn to the surface. The bucket was then lowered to Sullivan, and he was drawn up. (See case of JAMES W. BRICE, SR.)
