Abraham Bernard Starr saved Rachel P. and Lawrence P. Fisher and attempted to save Daphne F. Fisher from burning, Heron Bay, Ontario, May 3, 1973. Fire broke out in a one-story frame dwelling in the bedroom where Rachel, 3, and Lawrence,1, were alone. Starr, 31, diamond driller, crawled into the house as flames spread rapidly. Keeping beneath the smoke, Starr crawled to the children’s room and removed Rachel and Lawrence from the bed. Pushing the children ahead of him, Starr made his way back to the door. He emerged from the house and then learned that Daphne, two months, was in another room. Starr re-entered the dwelling and crawled to the closed door of the other room. By then flames were spreading on that wall; and Starr was forced to retreat. When firemen arrived, they removed the body of Daphne from the ruins. 54072-6174
