Ada W. Ford helped to save Marie DesBarres from drowning, Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick, August 5, 1913. Marie, 17, got into difficulty in Northumberland Strait 45 feet from shore, where the water was 6.5 feet deep. Miss Ford, 19, student, swam 35 feet to Marie and grasped her arms. She swam with her feet but was unable to make any progress toward shore. They bobbed up and down, and Miss Ford was unable to do more than hold Marie, who collapsed soon after she was reached. Both girls were rescued by a man. Miss Ford was exhausted but recovered. 19274-1433
