Adam Eichele, 35, carpenter, died attempting to save William J. Forest, 11, from drowning, Troy, New York, September 6, 1911. Eichele jumped from a bridge 30 feet above the surface of the water into the Hudson River and swam to William, who was struggling against the current in water 12 feet deep. Catching hold of the boy with his left arm, Eichele swam 50 feet with him and then suddenly became distressed. Both went under the surface and were drowned. 7197-583
