Adolphus Emmit Glisson, 60, laborer, died attempting to save Hugh I. Jacobs, 11, from drowning, Windom, Texas, May 19, 1923. Hugh fell from a box, in which he was floating, into deep water in a pond 35 feet from the bank. Glisson, wearing his clothing, waded from the opposite side of the pond and swam 135 feet to Hugh. He took hold of Hugh, but Hugh put both arms around Glisson, and they sank. Glisson rose and swam a foot or two with Hugh but then sank, and he and Hugh were drowned. 23391-1948
