Alan Herbert Rice, 17, schoolboy, helped to save Glenna Brown, 38, from drowning, Manson, Washington, November 26, 1945. (See case of MARGARET ELAINE RICE.) Almost fully clothed, Alan Herbert swam 40 feet to Mrs. Brown, who was unconscious, and towed her toward the bank. Becoming tired, he called to his father to aid him with Mrs. Brown. His father then swam 18 feet and took hold of Mrs. Brown’s hair. They towed her and with great difficulty got her onto the steep bank. Mrs. Brown was revived. 4-574-3475
