Albert Goodwin Ferguson, 36, insurance broker, saved Alice E. Small, 14, and attempted to save Marion S. Rossman, 26, from drowning, North Truro, Massachusetts, July 29, 1922. (See case of ARTHUR WASHBURN SEVERANCE.) Alice and Miss Rossman got into distress about the same time. Alice was carried about 50 feet from shore, and Miss Rossman was carried to a point 85 feet from shore. Ferguson, who was dressed, waded several steps into the water but then lost his footing and swam 35 feet to Alice. He had her take hold of him, and he swam 15 feet to wadable water on a bar with her. She was taken to shore by others. Ferguson then swam toward Miss Rossman, but he was struck by a wave and carried under water about 50 feet away from her. He became confused and breathless and floated 15 or 20 minutes, then he became unconscious and was finally rescued by lifeguards. Miss Rossman struggled to the bar and was assisted to shore. 23746-1854
