Albert K. Sweet, 20, machinist, attempted to save Ranghild S. D., 15; Lilly H. C., 13, and Axsel W. L. Hanson, 10, and Gilbert W. Johnson, 15, from drowning, Norwood, Rhode Island, February 17,1909. The Hansons and Gilbert broke through the ice together on Sand Pond, 200 feet from the bank where the water was 20 feet deep. Sweet skated to within four feet of the hole, and, as he flung his overcoat, which Ranghild and Gilbert grasped, the ice broke under him. After being in the water 20 minutes, Sweet was rescued by men with a boat. The four others were drowned. 3433-288
