Alexander M. Stanton saved Mattie R. Eldredge from drowning, Moultrieville, South Carolina, July 10, 1935. Stanton, 21, clerk, swam 290 feet to Mrs. Eldredge, 26, who was making feeble motions with her arms, and then towed her 275 feet as he swam with great exertion toward shore. Waves washed over them at times. Stanton got footing between waves, and another man met him and took Mrs. Eldredge to shore. Stanton with difficulty waded to shore and then fell from exhaustion. He recovered. Mrs. Eldredge was semiconscious but was revived. (See case of RICHARD L. MOODY, JR.)
