Alfred D. Cole, 55, teamster, sustained fatal injuries saving Ivis Jackson, 21, from being run over by a locomotive, Saginaw, Michigan, November 29, 1911. Cole and Miss Jackson, in darkness, stepped on a track together, without noticing a locomotive that was backing toward them at a speed of 3 m.p.h., until it was five feet distant. Cole grabbed Miss Jackson and threw her off the track, but he was struck by the locomotive and was dragged 30 feet before it was stopped.
