Alfred H. Davies attempted to save James B. Haggerty, 43, repairman, and Herman Tack, 53, assistant foreman, from suffocation, Detroit, Michigan, December 24, 1926. Davies, 56, repairman, insisted upon entering the tank, although he was warned of the danger and saw the effects of the gas on another man who had entered in a rescue attempt. He was roped and descended a ladder into the tank. As he tried to tie a rope around Haggerty, he was overcome. He was pulled out and was revived after much effort. (See case of JAMES B. HAGGERTY.) 26982-2174
