Anna Margaret Cunningham attempted to save Walker Cutts from drowning, Tybee Island, Georgia, May 26, 1905. Miss Cunningham, 20, trained nurse, swam 25 feet out into the ocean from a point 125 feet from the shore and, against the tide, assisted in taking Cutts, 21, toward shore. Upon being carried under the water the third time by the high waves, she had her hold on him broken. Miss Cunningham was pulled to shore exhausted, and Cutts was drowned.
