Anthony James Borgia saved an indeterminate number of persons from being struck by a tractor-trailer, Scranton, Pennsylvania, July 19, 1978. When he saw that a loaded tractor-trailer had lost its brakes while on a downgrade toward a busy intersection, Borgia, 55, truckdriver, decided to use his dump truck to stop the runaway vehicle. Moving into position in front of the rig, Borgia allowed it to make contact with the rear of the dump truck. Although the heavy rig forced the truck into the lanes of oncoming traffic, the two vehicles, in contact, descended the grade without mishap as Borgia carefully applied his brakes. He then moved onto the dirt shoulder of the highway, where he stopped the truck and the tractor-trailer about 200 feet from the intersection. 56354-6334
