Antonio Benetti, 44, laborer, died attempting to save Barbara A. Tuck, 9, Sondra M. Sheppard, 9, and Marie J. Rockett, 11, from drowning, Aldershot, Ontario, June 4, 1943. While wading in a pond, Barbara, Sondra, and Marie got into water 10 feet deep in a hole; and all sank. From the bank Benetti, who knew of the hole and could not swim, waded toward the girls. A man called to him to remove some of his clothing, but be gave no heed. Benetti stepped into the hole, was submerged, and splashed to keep up. A man waded to the edge of the hole, and Benetti took hold of his extended hand. Benetti’s hold slipped, and he was submerged again. The other man fell into the hole but swam to wadable water.
