Arnold F. Voss, 10, schoolboy, saved Henry E. O’Donnell, 14, schoolboy, from drowning, Papineau, Illinois, February 4, 1916. While attempting to rescue his brother who had broken through thin ice on Beaver Creek, Henry broke through the ice. Another brother also broke through the ice in an attempt to rescue them. Arnold walked to the thin ice, crawled on his stomach about eight feet, and extended his hand to Henry. His feet slipped into the hole once, and he got wet to his knees, but he drew Henry on the ice. A sister of the two boys still in the water rescued one of them, but the other boy was drowned. 16113-1543
