Arthur A. Calek, Jr., saved Elise A. McMahon from being struck by a train, Riverside, Illinois, April 3, 1991. Mrs. McMahon, 26, was attempting to cross the tracks at a commuter rail station when she slipped and fell onto the track on which a train was fast approaching. Calek, 42, business planning manager, was nearby on the platform and saw her fall. He immediately ran to her, grasped her by the coat, and pulled her from the track, the front of the train then passing them. Mrs. McMahon sustained cuts and bruises, but she recovered.
