Arthur C. Harrison died saving Ben C. Simpson from suffocation, Houston, Arkansas, September 13, 1927. Simpson, 26, farmer, entered a well 33 feet deep and was overcome by gas. After a man had refused to enter to help Simpson, Harrison, 47, farmer, with a rope tied around him, was lowered into the well. He intended to tie the other end of the rope around Simpson. Finding the rope was too short, he removed the rope from around himself and tied it around Simpson, and men at the top began to draw up the rope. Harrison caught hold of the rope above Simpson, and when both had been drawn up about 15 feet, Harrison fell to the bottom. Simpson was drawn out of the well and later revived. A few minutes later Harrison was removed from the well by means of a rope and hook, but he was dead. 27683-2193
