Arthur E. Allen, 37, dye-house foreman, helped to save Alfred M. Binette, Jr., and saved Harold E. Pulsifer, Jr., from drowning, Springvale, Maine, December 4, 1943. (See case of HAROLD E. PULSIFER, JR.) Allen walked toward Alfred and Harold, and the ice broke under him at a point six feet from them. Breaking ice ahead of him, he swam to them; and placing an arm around each, he swam on his back to the ice. He lifted Harold and Alfred as they were being pulled out of the water. He tried to climb onto the ice but was unable to. When he was being pulled out, the edge of the ice broke; he lost his hold on the stick; and he was briefly submerged. He then was pulled onto the ice. 40066-3348
