Arvey N. Florence, 22, painter, assisted in an attempt to save W. Hampton Arrasmith, 30, painter, from electric shock, Cincinnati, Ohio, August 7, 1911. Arrasmith lay face downward across a narrow girder of a steel trestle, 17 feet above the ground, his body being in contact with two wires, each of which carried a current of 2,300 volts of electricity. He was unconscious, and his clothing was burning. Florence, standing on a girder three feet distant, grasped Arrasmith’s clothing and supported him with the assistance of a companion until another man arrived with a rope, which was tied around Arrasmith. Florence then helped to jerk Arrasmith away from the wires and lower him to the ground. Florence received several shocks but was not injured. Arrasmith died within a short time without regaining consciousness. 8429-663
