Bert V. McMinn saved Leonard Jones from a well cave-in, Jacksonville, Texas, January 24, 1925. While Jones, 42, well digger, was at work in the bottom of a well 41 feet deep, a fall of sand from one side covered him to the top of his shoulders. Bert, 15, schoolboy, who had never been in a well, descended to Jones and shoveled the sand away from him and sent it up to the top in a bucket. Becoming tired, he called for aid, but men at the top would not descend. When he had cleared the sand about to Jones’s hips, a slip of sand from the opposite side buried Jones to his shoulders again. Bert kept on removing the sand, and after working an hour and a half, he freed Jones. Both were then drawn out of the well. 25002-2184
