Bertha Flores died attempting to rescue Victor S. Flores II from burning, Brawley, California, February 15, 1984. Victor, five months old, was asleep on the second floor of a two-story, private group home for adolescent girls when fire broke out on the first floor. His mother, Mrs. Flores, 30, a temporary houseparent at the home, awakened and went downstairs, where she alerted two of the home’s residents, who then fled. Mrs. Flores returned upstairs for Victor. Their bodies were later found by firefighters; they had died of smoke inhalation. 59864-6973
