Blanche I. Baldwin, 15, schoolgirl, saved Richard G. Scoble, Jr., 18, theater ticket collector, from drowning, Clear Lake Highlands, California, September 5, 1926. While Scoble was swimming in Clear Lake, he got into distress in deep water 195 feet from shore. Blanche, who weighed a third less than Scoble, swam 35 feet from a pier to him. He grabbed her shoulders, and both were twice submerged. Blanche then succeeded in breaking his hold, and she swam 40 feet with him to wadable water close to the pier.
