Boromé Pelchat, 29, oiler, saved Alice Crete, 23, and Therese Landry, 11, from drowning, Manchester, New Hampshire, July 15, 1926. While Miss Crete and Therese were wading in the Piscataquog River, they stepped into water 10 feet deep 120 feet from the bank and drifted five feet farther from the bank. Pelchat swam 350 feet to them from the opposite bank. After diving twice, he with great difficulty swam 20 feet with them, not knowing the wadable limit, and then carried them to the bank. They were unconscious but were revived. Pelchat was temporarily exhausted. 26562-2283
