Brent A. Duncan helped to save a man from burning, Jasper, Indiana, September 16, 2018. A 33-year-old man remained in the front, passenger seat of a sport utility vehicle after an accident at night in which the vehicle went off a road and came to rest, overturned onto its passenger side, on a grassy shoulder. Other motorists pulled over upon seeing the SUV’s injured driver in the road and called 911. Dispatched to the scene and finding the man disoriented in his seat, Duncan, 28, police officer, and another male officer sprayed fire extinguishers at the engine compartment but were unable to smother the flames. Duncan and the other officer then moved to the SUV’s rear, where the hatch window was broken out. After the other officer entered and grasped the man, who began moving toward them, Duncan also gained a hold on the man’s arm. Together, they removed the man, and a bystander helped Duncan and the other officer drag him away from the vehicle before flames grew to consume it. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of a facial abrasion. 90174-10161
