Brent Gordon Gough saved an unidentified man from drowning, Lahaina, Hawaii, April 15, 1971. At Lahaina Beach, an unidentified man was caught by a riptide and carried seaward in the Pacific Ocean. He called for help. Brent, 17, student, waded and swam to the man, who then was flailing wildly 75 feet from shore in water 12 feet deep between breakers. The man pulled Brent under briefly. Obtaining a firm hold on the man, Brent towed him shoreward, Because he was outweighed by about 50 pounds, Brent was submerged a number of times and was nearly exhausted by the time he had towed the man to wadable water.
