Bret M. Lincoln helped to save Thomas E. Riley and attempted to save John A. Comeau from drowning, Lynn, Massachusetts, January 27, 1986. Thomas, 13, and John, 10, were on the walkway of a sea wall when a wave swept John into the rough, cold water of the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby, Lincoln, 25, restaurant manager, immediately jumped down to the walkway and dived into the ocean. He grabbed John and held his head above the surface of the water. Thomas was then swept into the ocean, and Lincoln grabbed him. For several minutes, Lincoln maintained his grip on the boys as they were thrown against the wall by the waves, which eventually separated them. Thomas and Lincoln were pulled from the water by others who had arrived. They recovered after hospital treatment. John drowned. 60904-7064
