Bryan Priestman, 49, professor, died attempting to save Ronald W. Dempsey, 8, from drowning, Fredericton, New Brunswick, November 11, 1945. Ronald fell from a bridge into the Saint John River at a point 575 feet from the bank, where the water was 13 feet deep. Priestman, who was walking on the bridge, was told of the accident by a boy companion of Ronald’s. Priestman’s later actions were not observed, but his shoes and jacket were found on the top of a pier 25 feet above the water and 600 feet from the bank. The bodies of Priestman and Ronald, their arms being around each other, were recovered the next day in water three feet deep at a point 15 feet from the bank. 40575-3471
