Burdett Fisher, 61, drayman, saved Eliza Chezem, 49, from being killed by a train, Windfall, Indiana, October 16, 1911. Miss Chezem fell on the track ahead of a passenger train. Fisher stepped to the edge of a platform 28 inches from the rail, stooped in front of the train, and seized Miss Chezem, who was then between the platform and the track. When he seized her, the front of the locomotive, which was moving at about 10 m.p.h., was only 10 feet from him. The bumper timber passed within an inch of his head as he straightened up and drew Miss Chezem onto the platform. 7686-1235
