C. Beryl Allen, 14, schoolgirl, saved Arleen M. Cox, 17, from drowning, Strong, Maine, June 28, 1927. While Arleen was swimming in a pool of West Freeman Stream, she got into distress in deep water. Beryl, who was a poor swimmer, swam 45 feet to her and towed her about 30 feet. Arleen then clutched Beryl at the shoulders, and both were submerged twice momentarily before Beryl freed herself. She then swam and towed Arleen a few feet farther to wadable water. 27508-2250
