C. Wayne Folckemer, 18, died saving Dolores Mae Smith, 13, from drowning, Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, August 21, 1945. While wading in a pool of Black Moshannon Creek, Dolores slipped into water over her depth and called for help. Folckemer ran approximately 400 feet to the bank, waded, and then swam 10 feet to a point behind Dolores, who was flailing her arms. He took hold of her, raised her shoulders above the water, and thrust her toward his brother, who got hold of her wrists and pulled her to him in wadable water. Folckemer sank and did not reappear, his body being recovered four hours later. 40505-3435
