Calvin C. Williams, 51, hotel clerk, saved Bertha Whittaker, 18, and Louise Felsberg, 20, from drowning, Spring Lake, New Jersey, August 7, 1908. Williams swam to the assistance of the girls, who were struggling together in Wreck Pond 25 feet from shore. He was grabbed by them, and all went under the surface slightly. With the girls holding to his neck and choking him and their weight forcing him under the surface most of the time, Williams swam 15 feet to shallow water, the girls becoming semiconscious. They were revived. 2809-458
