Calvin Hayes Elliott, 44, physician, attempted to save Marion S. Rossman, 26, from drowning, North Truro, Massachusetts, July 29, 1922. (See case of ARTHUR WASHBURN SEVERANCE.) Elliott left shore and started toward Miss Rossman, but after wading six or eight feet, he was swept from his footing. He tried to swim but was tossed about by the waves and the swirling water and was unable to reach Miss Rossman. He swallowed water and became dazed. A lifeguard reached him and took him to shore, unconscious, but he was revived. 23747-1855
