Carl Donner died attempting to save Doris E. Randolph from drowning, St. Clairsville, Ohio, September 7, 1925. Miss Randolph, 18, caught hold of a rope, which hung from a tree on the bank of a lake, and swung from the bank. She dropped into deep water 20 feet from the bank. Donner, 19, miner, was in the water at a point 12 feet from her. Although he was cold and tired from a long swim, he swam to her. She grabbed him with both arms, pinning his arms to his sides.
