Carl J. Bolt rescued Lyle D. Motok from burning, Houston, Texas, March 1, 1982. Motok, 21, was trapped in the cab of his tow truck, which overturned and burst into flames following a highway accident. Bolt, 55, truck driver, ran to the burning tow truck and twice reached inside for Motok, the second time pulling him through the broken windshield. Motok was aflame; Bolt rolled him on the pavement and tore off his clothing to extinguish the flames. Motok died 10 days later from his burns. Bolt sustained minor burns and recovered.
