Carlisle S. Lentz, 37, hospital superintendent, helped to save Ethel V. Von Poellnitz,11, and John C. Flanagan, 11, from drowning, Moultrieville, South Carolina, August 28, 1930. Lentz, who was not accustomed to ocean swimming and who was suffering from a fractured toe, swam 135 feet to Ethel. Holding her, he swam with great exertion 20 feet to a woman who took Ethel to shore. Although he was winded, Lentz swam 20 feet to John, whom he supported while he swam 75 feet to wadable water. Upon reaching shore, Lentz collapsed from exhaustion. (See case of CATHERINE W. FURLONG.)
