Carlton E. Brown, 19, student, attempted to save John M. Morehouse, 15, student, and Albert A. Slaline, 21, huckster, from drowning, Miamiville, Ohio, July 4, 1919. (See case of ALBERT A. SLALINE.) Brown swam 54 feet from the bank to John and Slaline. He took hold of Slaline around the waist and attempted to swim with him but made no progress and called for help. Another man reached the three, and after jerking John away and swimming with him part way to the bank, he returned and separated Brown and Slaline, who were engaged in a struggle. A pair of water wings was tossed to Brown after he became separated from Slaline, and he used them to swim back to the bank. He was exhausted when he reached the bank. 19990-1553
