Charles A. Bandaccari attempted to rescue James T. Youngell from an armed assailant, Crystal Falls, Michigan, August 28, 1973. When an armed man shot him in the side, Youngell, 42, grappled with his assailant; and both fell to the ground outside a store. Bandaccari, 30, meat cutter, was attracted from his work in the store. He recognized one of the two men struggling for possession of the gun as Youngell. Running to alongside the men, Bandaccari grabbed the assailant, who was sitting on Youngell. As Bandaccari attempted to pull the assailant off Youngell, a sheriff arrived. He disarmed the man, who was taken into custody. Youngell recovered from his gunshot wound.
