Charles Clayton Cole, 19, school-boy, saved Frank Crnko and Samuel Gjurasin, each 9, from drowning, Vincent, Ohio, May 27, 1939. Frank and Samuel fell into water 10 feet deep in a stone-quarry, the walls of which rose vertically for five to 20 feet above the surface. From a rock projection Cole dived and swam 35 feet to a point between the boys, who got hold of him around his neck and shoulders. To break the holds, Cole submerged. Samuel released his hold, and Cole pushed Frank from him. The three rose separately. The boys again got hold of Cole; and he swam five feet to submerged rocks, on which the three then stood. Cole then swam towing Samuel 50 feet to the projection. He then swam 25 feet to Frank, who was being towed by another boy, and towed him to the projection.
