Charles E. Glass, 43, locomotive engineer, saved William H. Hawley, 56, carpenter, from being run over by a train, Staunton, Virginia, July 20, 1912. Hawley stood midway between the rails of a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of 25 m.p.h., and he did not realize his danger. From a point 15 feet from Hawley, Glass sprang toward Hawley, stepped inside the rails, grabbed him, and jerked him from the track. They cleared the track when the locomotive was about 10 feet from them. 9124-993
