Charles H. Facklam, 14, schoolboy, attempted to save B. Walford Anderson, 14, schoolboy, from drowning, Buffalo, New York, August 13, 1913. Walford became distressed in the Niagara River 25 feet from Squaw Island, and Charles, who was considerably lighter than Walford, swam to him. Walford seized Charles and carried him under the surface twice, and Charles was unable to free himself. Two young men swam to them and separated them when they rose. Charles was weakened and was helped ashore, and Walford was taken ashore, unconscious. Charles soon recovered, and Walford was revived. 16646-1217
