Charles John Trautwein, Jr., died attempting to save Amanda, 36, and E. Louise Davis, 5, from drowning, Sheldon, Texas, July 11, 1926. While wading in the San Jacinto River, Louise stepped from a sandbar into deep water 50 feet from the bank. Her mother went to her aid and both were carried by the current farther from the bar. Fully clothed, Trautwein, 20, plumber’s apprentice, swam 12 feet from the bank toward them and then went under the surface momentarily. He drifted 20 feet or more and then sank and was drowned. Mrs. Davis and Louise were rescued by another man. 26543-2189
