Charles Michael Scott saved John J. Beale from drowning, Big Bear Lake, California, February 19, 1972. When his boat capsized in a lake and he was thrown into deep water, Tohn, 6, attempted to swim to the bank. Scott, 25, painter, was attracted and entered the cold water after removing some of his attire. He swam to John, who then was 55 feet from the bank. By the time he had towed John to a wadable depth, Scott was nearly incapacitated by the cold water. Both he and John recovered.
