Charles O’Hara, 35, rigger, attempted to save George Vuknic, 24, rigger, from suffocation, McKeesport, Pennsylvania, October 15, 1917. (See case of ADAM LIDDLE.) O’Hara, who went to the flue with a pulmotor, was asked by Liddle to enter the flue. He entered and went to Vuknic and tied a rope to him. He then returned to the manhole and was drawn out, and Vuknic was drawn out. O’Hara had been in the flue about three minutes. He had a headache but was not otherwise affected. Another man, who had a rope tied to himself, later entered and tied a rope to Shearer, and Shearer was drawn out. 18505-1364
