Charles R. Pasho, 16, student, saved an indeterminate number of persons from a runaway, Syracuse, New York, October 20, 1920. A team of horses hitched to a wagon bolted away from the driver and ran into a school yard toward a large number of girls, who were in lines at one side of the school building, and a teacher. Charles, who was at the opposite side of the building with other students, ran toward the team and caught hold of the line of the nigh horse near the bit. He was lifted from the ground and carried along beside the horse’s head about 42 feet. The horse then fell, and Charles threw himself upon its head and held it down. The other horse did not fall but stopped at once. At least seven girls were knocked down by the team and injured, several seriously, and several girls were knocked down by colliding with one another. Charles was not injured. 20896-1822
