Charles R. Sisk, 31, clergyman, died attempting to save William R. Speicher, 8, from drowning, Grantsville, Maryland, June 28, 1946. William waded in the Casselman River to the brink of an 18-inch fall and was swept into turbulent water 7.5 feet deep. An older boy lay prone on the bottom at the brink and tried to reach William. Sisk, who was fully clothed, waded to the older boy and pulled him back. After removing his shoes, Sisk jumped into the pool and was submerged. He was buffeted by the water, and one arm was observed only briefly six feet from the fall. Both William and Sisk were drowned. 40929-3500
