Charles Saucier saved Ricky Don Bailey from drowning, St. Francisville, Louisiana, August 6, 1989. Bailey, 31, entered the water to save an eight-year- old boy from drowning in a deep hole of Thompson Creek, but he tired and also began to struggle. He called for help. Saucier, 21, ironworker, who had also entered the water to save the boy, swam to Bailey and towed him back to the bank. The boy was saved by another rescuer. Exhausted, Bailey and Saucier were treated at the hospital for having nearly drowned, and they recovered.
