Charlie R. Aylsworth, 52, merchant, rescued Alton Diller, 4, from a runaway, Portland, Oregon, July 5, 1915. A horse ran away with a buggy in which Alton was seated. A man started in pursuit but could not overtake the runaway. Aylsworth ran into the street and alongside the horse and tried to grasp one of the reins but failed. He kept running, and reaching over in front of the rear wheel, seized Alton. The wheel struck Aylsworth, and he fell to the street with Alton in his arms. Alton was uninjured. Aylsworth suffered a fractured skull and contusions of the shoulders, elbows, and legs. He was unconscious for two weeks but recovered. 16642-1311
